02 NCAC 48A .0223          ABANDONED BEES OR BEE EQUIPMENT

Honeybee colonies left untended on the property of another for a period of 12 months shall be considered abandoned.  The State Apiarist, upon permission of property owner or manager, may take possession and care for the abandoned apiary for a period of 12 months.  If after this time an owner has not been found the bees may be sold at public auction and the proceeds applied to the bee disease clean‑up program.
